Diversifying Venture Capital

It's time to take our seat at the table

Welcome to the Black Executive Men newsletter. If you are not a subscriber and want to join the newsletter, please do so below.

Challenge updates:

The Challenge is going well. 25 were bought tickets for $30–$50. We’ve been using the Cirlce platform for communication, the course, and live coaching. 13 brothers showed up to the initial training. This was partially due to an auto-reminder error that sent some brothers to a Zoom link instead of Circle. Refunds were offered to those brothers, and one was accepted.

We’ve had one additional training since and worked on professional mission and impact statements. We have two more live training and coaching sessions.

Two brothers have already gotten job offers. The first to accept their job offer gets $100, the second $50, and the third $25 in prize money and a shoutout in this newsletter.

Lastly, we’ve been using intros.ai to facilitate networking opportunities. Each week, guys are automatically paired up to network with one another to support their job search success. So far, they’ve given that experience a 10/10 review.

We’ve got less than 3 weeks left in the Challenge and I expect you guys to get jobs! Massive action brings results. I’m cheering you on. Keep going!

Diversifying Venture Capital

Let's talk about the venture capital (VC) and private equity scenes.

It's a dynamic space, but let's be real—it hasn't been the most diverse.

Not enough black voices are at this table yet, but that’s changing thanks to groups like the NAIC and Black VC.

They're doing amazing work to open doors for black professionals in VC.

In case you're new to how it all works, many VCs get their financial muscle from various backers—think state pensions, banks, and corporations—with a keen eye on supporting minority-led initiatives in places like California, Texas, Illinois, and New York.

The goal is simple: your VC finds those brilliant startups with big potential so you can help them grow into tomorrow’s success stories.

So if you've ever felt like this world isn’t for you—you belong here just as much as anyone else.

Don't shy away from making your mark in VC and private equity; these communities need what only we can bring to the table!

EP 30: The Price of Transformation 🎙

In this episode, I discuss the importance of investing in coaching and stepping into one's greatness. I share my personal experience of paying for coaching and how it transformed my life. I emphasize the need to overcome the stagnant side of oneself and take risks in order to achieve success. I also highlight the value of having a coach or mentor to guide and support one's journey.

"We all must pay the price to move forward in life."

Key Takeaways:

  • Investing in coaching is a commitment to personal growth and transformation.

  • Overcoming the stagnant side of oneself is essential for progress.

  • Stepping into one's greatness requires taking risks and embracing the unknown.

  • Having a coach or mentor can provide guidance and support on the journey to success.

Born Driven: The Executive Blueprint For Black Men In Corporate America 📘

My book cohort has ended, and it’s on me now to complete my book. I thought I’d have finished it by now, but not yet. Mentally, I was waiting for permission to tell my story, and now I think I’m ready to own this process and get it done. My new goal is by the end of December.

I’m likely going to have it published by a brother in the Black Executive Men network. His name is Jonathan Beauford, and his publishing company is called Last Gen Publishing.

If you’re considering writing your book, reach out to Jonathan and tell him I sent you.
