Separating Personal and Professional Identities

Often, mid- and senior-level leaders confuse their personal and professional identities.
It's crucial to understand that these are separate entities.
Consider the example of McDonald's; they present a public image of fun characters and affordable meals in a community-friendly setting.
Behind this facade are countless workers, both frontline and white-collar, as well as the less glamorous machinery used to produce their products.
Yet customers only see the polished final product; this is what's presented publicly.
Similarly, you have a professional brand that you display at work, which may include elements from your personal life.
However, it’s essential to carefully choose those aspects that positively contribute to your professional persona.
This advice isn't for those with low aspirations but for individuals aiming high or already successful in corporate America seeking further enhancement.
Don’t let personal issues like perceived racism or fear of losing your position affect your work mindset; these concerns can hinder career advancement.
Remember: You're not there as your private self but as your professional self, whose main focus is getting the job done efficiently.
If something bothers you personally at work, strive to elevate yourself mentally and skill-wise so it doesn't impede success in your career journey.
Remember, Work is purely business!
