Did you know that some brothers have ideal job leads landing in their LinkedIn inbox on a weekly basis?

This is called a "hot" network.

These are not corporate beggar roles.

These are top-tier roles that companies are begging these men to fill.

On the other side of the aisle, there are brothers who have cold networks, and their inboxes are filled with cobwebs and with lowball offers.

They are either too shy, too busy, too overwhelmed on their job, or simply never learned the enormous benefits of networking.

I’ve said it time and time again, and the same principles still apply.

There are four pillars of career success.

Let’s review.

  1. Excellent job performance for retention.

  2. An internal marketing campaign for promotions.

  3. Strategic networking for new jobs and opportunities.

  4. professional development for industry leadership.

However, to develop a hot network where your ideal jobs are coming your way on a weekly basis, you have to be involved in strategic networking, pillar number three.

Start small, but spend time weekly making meaningful connections with others on LinkedIn in order to learn about their industry and make sure they know what your expertise is.

Make sure that you are connected and on good terms with recruiters within the industry and with companies that you would love to work at.

This requires you to identify which companies these are beforehand in order to add their recruiters and hiring managers to your strategic marketing plan.

Racism is real, but did you know that there are certain companies that have pledged to hire more "minorities" and have a special interest in hiring Black men specifically for their leadership pipeline?

If you strategically networked and found out which companies these were, do you think you’d have a better chance of landing an ideal role?

If there’s a conference where most of their reps will be, buy your plane ticket, book your hotel, and go.

You may see $1,000 as a big expense, but if that turns into a $50,000 or $500,000 increase in total compensation in your next role, would you say it was worth it?

Well, that’s how you have to think if you want to have a hot network.

I learned this skill from a brother who was my client a while back.

He was climbing the ladder fast.

Every 1-2 years, he had a new job with a higher level of seniority and much higher pay.

He’s currently a co-founder of an organization and crushing it right now.

Is he smart? Yes.

But so are you.

However, he didn’t just focus on his job; he focused on his career.

He knows that to advance his overall career, which means salary, seniority, and job satisfaction, he will have to look outside of his bubble, flex his muscles, and network with people who are looking for top talent.

While you might have the stomach for the life of a job-hopper, you don’t have to.

Making sure you have a hot network could simply make it much easier for you to land your next executive role once the time comes for you to do so, and then you can ride out the rest of your career there.

So here’s the test.

Take a look at your LinkedIn inbox.

Do you have ideal job offers being sent your way on a weekly basis?

If your answer is “no,” then why not?

You have the intelligence, talent, and experience to reach the next level.

Focus on the third pillar of career success in order to unlock opportunities that you currently wouldn’t believe are possible for you.
